4) Shore Up Your Short-Term Memory
How many times have you been walking to your office to call a prospective customer, your cell phone buzzes with a text message, and you reflexively read it? By the time you reach your office, you have completely forgotten about the prospective customer you needed to call.
Short-term memory is very unreliable. It can be thought of as an erasable chalkboard. Your brain offers a window of only 10 to 20 seconds before new thoughts run through your mind, wiping out the thought you had only a moment ago.
Memory is the stepping-stone of success. There are too many distractions in business to rely on your short-term memory. Forgotten phone calls, lost pieces of paper, missed appointments, and broken promises are just a few of the costs related to over-reliance on short-term memory.
Solution: Take a pen and notepad with you everywhere you go. Write down what you need to remember and stop relying on your fragile ability to store and retrieve important information.
